Amendment 3: Higher homestead exemption and lower assessment cap for non-homestead property

On the ballot: November 3, 2026 Legislatively referred constitutional amendment (Article VII, Sections 4, 6, and 9; Article XII)

A YES vote means

The homestead exemption from non-school property taxes would rise to $150,000 in 2027 and $250,000 in 2028, the yearly cap on assessment increases for non-homestead property would drop from 10% to 5%, and counties and cities would have to use property taxes for listed purposes such as public safety, schools, and infrastructure; other spending could still be approved by local officials unless state law prohibits it.

A NO vote means

Current homestead exemptions, the 10% cap on non-homestead assessment increases, and local governments’ use of property taxes stay as they are.
